Windows 10 update stops antivirus on your PC - what to do?

Include Windows 10 users, it's time again. Microsoft has updated its operating system and, as always, has left a path of destruction. As Windows Latest discovered, Windows Defender is the latest fatality, the anti-malware tool that you can use to protect your computer.

After updating the antivirus software, several users receive the "Items ignored during scanning" error message. This is not the most reassuring conclusion for an analysis designed to eliminate intruders.

This would be useful if exclusions were applied to these reporting issues or if changes were made to network settings. Unfortunately, angry Windows 10 users can't find the cause of the problem and still no solution.

A user wrote on the Microsoft support forums that he did not receive this message with a quick manual scan or a full scan. This happens regardless of whether you have disabled cloud protection or controlled folder access. He did not test the other parameters. Did not exclude a file.

Another person wrote on Answers.com that they had completely reinstalled from my Windows 10 USB drive. The problem disappeared until they ran Windows Updates with KB4551762 and KB4537572 installed (which I believe is the NET Framework update). Then the problem returned. I think it is KB4551762 that does this.

We don't even know exactly what is causing the problem. Windows Defender version 4.18.2003 and later appears to have introduced the error when Microsoft fixed other issues. This theory is supported by evidence that only Windows 10 systems are affected by the problem. Windows 8 and Windows 7 PCs are not affected, although you should no longer use the latter.

It's also possible that the problem is due to a Windows 10 update causing all kinds of problems. In this case, Microsoft could correct the error with a later solution.

However, some Windows 10 users are concerned that the problem may be caused by a virus. As Windows Latest suspects, the error message itself may be an error and there is no current problem with the scan.

Windows Defender error: what to do?

Microsoft has not recognized the problem, so it is unclear if a solution is being developed. Fortunately, some users report that offline scanning is not an issue. Of course, Windows Defender offers limited protection without an active connection.

If you trust Windows Defender as your primary antivirus solution, these issues can make your system vulnerable to malware. We recommend that you download one of the best free antivirus until Microsoft fixes Windows Defender issues.
